The snail above is a metre long,
and was built up using slabs of clay. The antenae are made using
steel threaded bar covered in resin (they would be too delicate
in ceramic).
The owl on the right was made using
a sheet of clay that had first been coated in a white slip pattern.
A different coloured clay (with a very similar shrinkage) was
used for eyes - it too had been patterned before beng bent into
shape.
The bird forms that David creates
are often sanded down after bisque firing, and an angle grinder
is currently his tool of choice.
