David Cooke - CV / Background

David has been a professional wildlife artist since graduating in 1992 from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in 3D Design. Since then he has tackled many animal subjects - such as crabs, dinosaurs and gorillas, but has tended to specialize in reptiles and birds .He grew up in East Anglia with ready access to clay thanks to his mother Rosemarie Cooke, who is also a ceramic sculptor. David is a selected member of Anglian Potters, and gives demonstrations for them and exhibits at their shows.

David has worked on a number commissions for centers open to the public, such as a giant mole and beetles for 'Creatures of the Underworld' at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. In 2009 he created Belemnites and a dinosaur skull for the Great North Museum, Newcastle.

David has a selection of gallery outlets in the UK, that permanently stock his ceramic work, such as Anstey Galleries, Harrogate, and Iona House Gallery, Woodstock.
He regularly exhibits at some of the major uk ceramic and wildlife art shows, such as Art In Clay at Hatfield House , Potfest In Park, Penrith and the annual Society of Wildlife Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

In 2008 David created a bronze tortoise for Pride Of The Valley Sculpture Park in Surrey. This has led to the creation of a series of bronze wildlife sculptures which will be available through the Sothebys Garden Statuary sales in October.

As well as making animals David also writes songs about them, and Is currently touring schools and museums with Amoeba to Zebra, a natural history musical telling the story of evolution using the medium of pop music, and utilizing some bizarre and impressive props that he has created for the show.

David has been based at Sculpture Lounge Studios since 2005
