Animals are an exhausting and exciting subject, and there are a wide variety of forms and textures and so many ways of interpreting each piece. David feels that each animal warrants a different approach, and he enjoys experimenting with different styles and techniques. He creates both one-off and limited edition cast pieces in stoneware ceramic.

His pieces often incorporate mixed media, such as birds legs which are made using wire and resin. The raven pictured above is made using hessian skrim dipped in clay slip which burns off during firing.

David not only creates animals, he writes songs about them too, and is currently touring schools and museums with Amoeba to Zebra, a natural history musical telling the story of evolution using the medium of pop music, and utilizing some bizarre and impressive props that he has created for the show.
