Hour Glass forms - by Hellima Cassell

Martin reinforces his casts with glass fibre, making them stronger and lighter and less brittle than solid casts. Thin sections are also reinforced with wire.

Moulds are made in silicone rubber, surrounded by a fibre glass jacket.
The moulds will last for about 100 editions, and your moulds can be stored, and subsequent editions ordered at a later time.

This method of casting can produce a wide range of colours and finishes. A variety of metals can be mixed with the resin, and these can be oxidized using acids to produce a rusted look (above right).
A layer of resin mixed with metal powder is brushed onto the inside of the rubber mould, and then a layer fibre-glass and resin. The pieces of the mould are assembled before the resin sets.
The piece can then be weighted accordingly with extra resin
, and the base sealed, and leveled off.
